Official Announcement
Greetings Fellow Alumni and Friends:
I am Dr. Lawrence Marable, a 1981graduate of the Fort Valley State University. I am honored and excited to once again serve as President of the Fort Valley State University National Alumni Association for the 2012-2014 term. The Alumni Board continues to work for the betterment of Fort Valley State University.
The Alumni Association is committed to recognizing and nurturing the rich and proud heritage of Fort Valley State University. It should be the function of the Association to develop ways and means to involve and communicate with the Alumni and to see that the Alumni are recognized as a respected and integral part of the University community.
With that charge, we will continue to focus much of our future effort on Alumni growth, improvement of communication with our stakeholders and expanding our partnerships. Alumni growth not only means growing our active membership but developing more Alumni Chapters across the United States. Chapter growth will enhance Alumni friendships, aide in student recruitment, develop scholarship programs and deepen our proud heritage. I am pleased to report that during the past two years, there was an increase in alumni membership by30%. While this increase is phenomenal,we cannot stop here. We must continue to“grow” our Alumni Association for the future. The National Alumni Association Board has developed a strategic plan designed to move us forward, continues to review its membership numbers and aggressively deploys innovative recruitment initiatives to “Recruit, Reclaim and Retain” members.
I am proud to be associated with a Board that is committed to the ultimate goal for the success of Fort Valley State University (FVSU). FVSU would not be what it is today without the support of its talented and diverse Alumni population. I became involved with the Association because I was grateful to FVSU for providing me a foundation to reach many of my personal growth, career, and professional goals.I feel a deep sense of obligation to repay my debt of gratitude to FVSU for helping me reach these goals. I am sure many of you feel the same way.
Recently, we launched our latest signature program, the “50Under 40 Initiative”. This new initiative, which recognizes our 50 best and brightest young alums under the age of 40, is designed to honor graduates who are doing great things early-on in their careers, both in and out of the workplace.
Cultivating a strong and loyal spirit to the University among our alumni undoubtedly inures to the benefit of the members of the current student body. While our focus is always on our current students,a strong alumni association can also benefit the alums, themselves. Staying connected with our beloved University and building and maintaining a network of FVSU friends is a benefit, in itself.
I hope you will agree that supporting the Alumni Association is a way that we can give something back to an institution and a group of people who have done so much for us. I am excited about serving as your Alumni Association president for the next two years. If I can ever be of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me at Lawrence.marable@yahoo.com. I look forward to meeting you soon at an upcoming alumni event. Remember, Be Bold! Be Amazing! Be Prepared! After all, you are an FVSU Wildcat.
Sincerely,
Dr. Lawrence Marable
